Could she be the Lavinia Knight buried Philip Park Cemetery in February 1951 born around 1868. I also think she is with her husband William in the 1939 National Identity Register.

'Fraid 'rushing in' was even on my school reports [do they still have them?] from primary & secondary  schools in the 1950s & 60s  ::) .

The 1951 death registration that would tie in with the burial at Philips Park Cemetery was registered in Stockport birth about 1868.

Interesting from the information you have all given me today, that Lavinia's son Stephen Kenyon from her first marriage is living with his grandparents Stephen and Maria Banton in 1901, even though his mother Lavinia remarries William Knight in 1900. In 1901, as you found for me, Lavinia is living with William Knight  and HIS children, not with son Stephen (age 8). In 1911, Stephen Kenyon (age 19) is still living with his grandmother Maria Banton (his grandfather Stephen is dead) whilst his mother Lavinia lives with husband William and William's daughter May.

The family were obviously quite poor, so could the reason Lavinia left her son Stephen to live with his grandparents been a financial one? I presume this may have been a common event in hard circumstances?

Santa gets everywhere at this time of year!

He (Stephen Kenyon, not Santa) may not have been left to live with his grandparents as such. The census is only a snapshot of one night. Stephen may have spent a fair bit of time visiting his grandparents (maybe he didnt get on with step dad) and just have been there in census night in 1901 and 1911.
