wedding guest 1834 Tryon
« on: Wednesday 13 December 17 18:15 GMT (UK) »
I can't make out Elizabeth's last name. I've tried Newsom and Nelder. I've made a tree for each Elizabeth with that last name but I can't find the link between her and John Clark and Phoebe Clark Ward and/or William Weeks.

If I could be sure that Phoebe's parents were Ebenezer Ward and Peggy Margaret Clark it would help. I was hoping this Elizabeth could shed some light on that.

The original entry is at family search right hand side on the bottom.

I think the 4th letter is like the 's' in house and presence - see the first and last words of the third line.

This gives Newsam, though there are no doubt variants of this: you mentioned Newsom, but maybe also Newsome and Newsham.
Researching among others:
Bartle, Bilton, Bingley, Campbell, Craven, Emmott, Harcourt, Hirst, Kellet(t), Kennedy,
Meaburn, Mennile/Meynell, Metcalf(e), Palliser, Robinson, Rutter, Shipley, Stow, Wilkinson

Yes, those are all names I've tried. And the 1841 census didn't help! I have no doubt in my mind this guest is related to my Ward family since All of them are hiding from me so successfully. It's amazing that there isn't a family tree on ancestry that matches any of them.

I originally thought Newham before reading other replies, but looking more closely, the middle letter looks a bit closer to the 's' in 'presence' rather than the 'h' in 'others' in the same entry.

There is no guarantee that Elizabeth is related to the family - she may be a friend of the bride for example.  :-\ Not every tree is on Ancestry so I'm not sure why you are surprised you have found no matches to this family.  ;)

PS. Welcome to rootschat.
