John Risk, George Risk, Robert Risk.
« on: Thursday 14 December 17 19:06 GMT (UK) »
Hi can anyone please help with the above Argyll's all killed in Action. We now know they are all on the new Camelon Falkirk War Memorial. We have found that John And George were the sons of Alex and Margaret Risk from Camelon, but can find nothing on Robert to confirm if he was a third son or maybe an uncle of George and John. Robert was 1st Batt ASH and was killed 9th April 1917. number 303220.Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi Colin,

No parents mentioned for him on either the CWGC or Scottish National War Memorial.

However, there is a tree on Ancestry which gives his birth year as 1887 and his parents as Robert Risk and Mary Liddle. Also, he was married to a Janet Bryce Laird (1893 to 1966) and they had a child Helen born in 1911 died in 1989. Helen married and appears to have a living child.

Hope this helps and let me know if I can help further.

Oh Dorrie that was very quick, i can only thank you so much. My friend will be delighted when i show him this, there are only one or two Risks left alive and they could not confirm if they were brothers or not. We did wonder why the Cwgc Site and the Scottish War Memorial did not mention the fact, but now thanks to yourself we know they were not. Thanks again.

Robert's entry in the Soldiers' Effects register would seem to confirm the info passed on by Dowdstree - it names his sole legatee as his widow Janet.

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

With deep sadness,

My pleasure Colin.

Would I be correct in that John was killed on 17/9/1916 and George on 18/5/1916 and that there were a few siblings including a sister Christina married name Towers. If so there are some Service records for them.

Let me know if I can help with these.

My mates wife said they were told all three on the War Memorial were relations to my mate. So it looks to me they must have been cousins.

That is great that you have been able to confirm that the 3 boys were indeed related in some way.
Perhaps it could go back a couple of generations through their fathers. Further research would be needed to confirm this. Have you ever used Scotlands People for births etc ?

If they are on a new memorial someone must surely know their stories - I'd contact those responsible for thee new memorial.
