Thanks for the leads - I'll poke around and see if I can make some solid connection.

It turns out, too, that a Benjamin WHITEHEAD ran afoul of the law in the late 1840s and 1850s. I donít have access to the criminal register reports, but I found a few news items in the Manchester Guardian - he stole cloth from a warehouse (more than once).
