1 Vine Street in Grantham?
« on: Thursday 14 December 17 21:23 GMT (UK) »
Does that address no longer exist? It used to be Theophilus Rowle's grocer's shop, but apparently it was demolished in 1956? If anyone has any pictures of the old shop though, that would be great. Thanks.

Bingo, thanks. http://www.granthammatters.co.uk/?s=vine+street Now just need someone to tell which end is 1. I'm guessing it's the far end, which looks like a shop, but you can't really see it very well. Is this the place these days, next to the doctor's surgery? https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@52.9138677,-0.6427186,3a,30y,348.1h,83.06t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sw97iaCJqvOJThGyPnNy1jw!2e0!7i13312!8i6656?hl=en

The doctors' - Vine House - was No.5.  I think No.1 (or 2) would have been the near end building.

See before/after maps -

Today I broke my personal record for most consecutive days alive.

Number 1 should be at the major road end-of-the-street, on the left-hand-side.
I think it's the bland office block type building

(There's a British Standard for house numbering)

No 1 was where that bland office block building is now there is a booklet by Ruth Crook titled "The History of Vine House and Vine Street,Grantham " Printing funded by Grantham Civic Society. In it is a very small photo of No 1 Vine Street plus a photo of the corner of Vine Street and the High Street where you can see a side view of No 1 when I bought mine in 2013 it cost £5-00 without postage whether you can still get a copy from the Civic trust I don't know but you could try sending an email to granthamcivicsociety(at)virginmedia.com they should be able to tell you. Also on the cover of Bygone Grantham  1977 there is a photo on the front cover showing another side view of No 1 Vine Street.Hope this helps

Thanks everyone. It was where Watergate House is now, but frustratingly, every old photo just cuts it out, presumably because they wanted to get the church in, or it was an eyesore.

By side view do you mean this?  https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/517QkqA-ljL._SX373_BO1,204,203,200_.jpg

What address is that shop on the cover?

That's entitled Vine Street looking towards Market Place. What's the big, white building on the mid-left? Could 1 Vine St be the black shop to the right of it?
