William Rogers (of Wingrove & Rogers)
« on: Friday 15 December 17 13:22 GMT (UK) »
Does anyone know any details of this man - in my search I've found on nationalarchives references:

"B/WR/26/1 MISCELLANEOUS
(framed photograph of Mr. William Rogers, founding director, 1919-1961) n.d.

B/WR/31/1 STAFF
(2 photographs of 70th party for Mr. W. Rogers) 1961"

who was Mr Rogers and was he a native of Lancashire?

I believe they had manufacturing premises on Mill Lane, Old Swan and in Kirkby!

Thanks.

Kelly's Directory, 1968 edition has them in the trades section:
'Wingrove & Rogers Ltd., mfng electrl engnrs. Domville rd 13 (T.A.'Components, Lpl 13'); Stoneycroft 2265, (3 lines) & Charley Wood rd, Kirkby Industrial Estate, nr Liverpool. Simonswood 2631.'
This is the only edition I have.  There are many 'W. Rogers' in the private section.
Where does the TNA entry say the photos are kept?

If you Google the company name there are quite a few hits - apparently, for some reason, paperwork for the business is held at the Maritime Museum, Liverpool. I can find at least one hit for Major Charles Wingrove, co founder of the company but William Rogers is a real mystery man - nothing comes up for him as far as I can see. Born c1891 but where?

"...Maritime Archives is temporarily closed to the public from 1 September 2017 until spring 2018, and during this time we will be unable to accommodate researchers or answer enquiries..."

just my luck lol

did Mr Rogers die in Lancashire or in Cheshire (like Major Wingrove) or did he even die abroad?

not sure how I'll knock this wall down!

Not a lot of use, but as Wingrove and Rogers was founded in 1919 to supply control gear to British electric Vehicles of Southport I wonder if Mr Rogers was part of BEV, there is a William Rogers in Southport in the free index to the 1939 born 1891, wonder what his occuparion was.

I'd checked a range of William Rogers on the '39 register.

The William you have identified is not in the frame - cannot post details (policy)
