Hannah Williams nee Vaughan, Penmachno
« on: Friday 15 December 17 20:17 GMT (UK) »
A few years ago there was a topic, http://www.rootschat.com/links/01l64/ , about the three Vaughan sisters from Penmachno, Barbara, Sarah and Hannah. Barbara Roberts nee Vaughan was my 3x Great Grandmother. I believe that the Hannah Williams in the following 1851 Census in Penmachno was Hannah Vaughan who married John Williams in 1835.
House Bryn
John Williams      Head   38   Quarry Man      Festiniog, Merionethshire,
Hannah Williams   Wife   36   Quarry Man Wife   Penmachno, Caernarvonshire,
Robert Williams      Son   14   Slate Maker      Penmachno, Caernarvonshire,
Richard Roberts      Son   12   Scholar         Penmachno, Caernarvonshire,
John Williams      Son   10   Scholar         Penmachno, Caernarvonshire,
Catherine Williams   Daur   8            Penmachno, Caernarvonshire,
Janet Williams      Daur   6            Penmachno, Caernarvonshire,
HO107/2508/438/5

My query is where are the family in the 1841 Census and any ideas why the second son has a different surname.

Glyn
Jones - Penmachno/Blaenau Ffestiniog/Capel Garmon
Thomas - Abererch/Porthmadog
Evans - Llangelynin/Llanaelhaern
Jones - Pwllheli/Abererch
Brammer - Lincolnshire/Nottinghamshire
Robb - London/Scotland

Possible in 1841 - appears to be in approx the same location as 1851, given the houses and families nearby

Robert Williams    68
Catherine Williams    67
John Williams    24 - quarryman, b in county
Robert Williams    5

HO107; 5, 36, 9

Will see if Hannah and Richard can be found elsewhere

Is it possible that Richard Roberts was an "adopted" child, perhaps the son of a deceased(?) relative.

Where were he and Hannah in 1841?

Thank you Mabel I am kicking myself that I didn't spot them. I was hoping to find John and his son(s) separate from Hannah since i believe she is a Female Servant to another pair of my 3x Great Grandparents.

Cae Gwyn, Penmachno

John Jones  45 Mason and his wife Margaret Jones and two daughters.
HO107/1395/5/38/15

There seemed to be a strong connection between the Jones family and the Vaughans/Roberts.
Now I know that Richard Roberts isn't with John and Hannah Williams is a big help.

In the 1841 Census there are two Richard Roberts who fit the bill. Both are sons of farmers one Henry Roberts and the other David Roberts. However, both these Richards are in the same families in the 1851 Census. I am now wondering if Richard Roberts in the William's family is a double entry and of one of these other two Richards.
