Robert Gresley/Grasley/Greasley bapt/Parents?
« on: Friday 15 December 17 21:15 GMT (UK) »
Hi
I'm looking for any more possible Bapts for my 8th grt grandfather Robert Gresley/Grasley/Greasley.
He married Elizabeth Truman/Trewman 11 Sep 1723 Stapleford, Nottinghamshire
I couldn't see any more bapts on FindMyPast but I think I have him across border in Derbyshire:
Robert Gresley
Bapt 19 Sep 1699 Boylestone, Derbyshire.
Son of John Gresley/Greasley and Lydia Blound/Blount

I found John and Lydias marriage 13 Oct 1687 Boylestone, Derbyshire.
I havnt been able to find a Bapt for Lydia apart from a feasible Lidia Bland 1656 in Northamptonshire.
There also could be 2 possible bapts for john one Killamash, Derbyshire 1668 or the other Osmaston by Ashbourne, Derbyshire 1656.
Any help would be appreciated in seeing if there is a Robert Greasley bapt I perhaps missed in Notts and any further info on John and Lydia.

I haven't found any baptisms for Robert Gresley or any of the variables, I realize that people did move around much more than we think, but Boylestone in Derbyshire is a very long way from the Notts /Derbyshire border.Baptisms are so very hit and miss, they never happened, the records have disappeared or disintegrated, the records haven't been transcribed,or the baptisms take place years after the birth.

There is a Robert GREASELEY bap 20 Feb 1680/81 at St Luke's Hickling to Robert and Mercy. Still about 16 miles from Stapleford. (On Free Reg)  :-\

According to FreeReg, Robert GREASLEY married Mercy HAMPSON 28 Nov 1674 at St Mary's, Nottingham. They had a number of children baptised at Hicking (including the Robert above).

Mercy was buried 30 Nov 1684 at Hickling, and then it looks like Robert then married Elizabeth BLOOD 25 July 1686 at Kinoulton (both of Hickling). There are a couple more baptisms to Robert and Elizabeth at Hickling, and a burial for Robert 9 April 1710 at Hickling.

Free Reg has the marriage of John  Greasly, of Stapleford, to Elizabeth  Clark, of Kegworth, at Stanford on Soar on  7 January 1692/3. No age nnor status given for groom and I can find no record of death of Lydia so may be of no relevance.

Family Search has the burial of Robert Greasly, son of John and Lydia, on 23 June 1709, at Checkley, Staffs. Again nothing to confirm definite connection.

Hi
Yes, I did notice Boylestone was not exactly close to Stapleford but couldnt see any other so thought it could be a possibility he travelled.
I have Robert as Marrying Elizabeth Truman 11 Sep 1723 Stapleford, Notts. There is also another record on FindMyPast which lists it as 1728 although I think this might be a transcript error on the letter 3/8.
I have his burial as 8 Sep 1792 Stapleford, Notts

Robert's Son (My 7th grt grandfather) Robert Greasley is bapt 20 Sept 1741 Stapleford, Notts. He goes onto marry Ann Willson 3 Aug 1760/61 Stapleford, Notts.
I have 3 gens of Robert Greasleys my 8th/7th/6th grt grandfathers. They seem to all be listed as Robert/Robard Greasley/Greasly/Gresley/Grasly/Grasley.

I don't think the Robert bapt 1680 is my Robert as that would make him in his 60s when Robert was bapt 1741? Im not saying its impossible but more unlikely.

I wonder if the records where to bad to transcribe or got destroyed somehow if Robert isn't the one from Boylestone.
