The 'E' in Elizabeth is quite different, but, based on a few wills I have looked at recently, that doesn't mean it's wrong

I think it has 6 letters and the best I can do so far is **ate*

No, only 5 letters.  The last four are:   a-t-e-s

I think it is probably Gates.  However I have significant reservations about the formation of the G.

Is it PCC?  If so, who is the testator?

Attached are a couple of G's from a nearby will (in Guilielmo and Georgij).

They aren't quite identical, but sufficiently similar to confirm it's most likely a G.

So the 'extra' squiggle is part of the 'G'?
