Divorce papers from Kew c.1894
« on: Saturday 16 December 17 20:07 GMT (UK) »
Does anybody know how detailed the papers are at Kew for Divorce records?

I have found the handwritten entry of a divorce in 1894 with names of Appellant, Respondent and Co-respondent, and the case number, which is on Ancestry, but unfortunately not the reasons or precise dates.  As an ancestor was born that year, it could be important.
Fullman, Burt, Jones, Coughlan, Raven, Parris, Deamer, Winmill.
Kelly, Taylor, Hewitt, McNally, Sindrey, Ross, Bonsey, Hickie, Hope, Potter, Crawford, King.

I suppose the amount of detail depends on individual cases, the papers I got relating to one of my husbands relatives made harrowing reading as it involved domestic violence which was graphically described. There were some other interesting details and I felt they were well worth the cost.

I have papers for an 1860's divorce, and they are interesting - detailing the proceedings.  As angelfish58 says, it all depends on the individual case.
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Thats good, I need the detail, sadly.  Did you ring them and order them or did you have to attend in person?

Have you looked at the British Newspaper Archive [available on subscription or pay per view on Findmypast] for the names? The case may have been reported.

I checked.  Nothing in newspaper.  I am guessing they were not that important  ;D
