beatrice wingate/ reginald Charles Ledbury workhouse
« on: Sunday 17 December 17 15:59 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone help me with some information please?

According to some old notes My great grandma Beatrice gave birth to her first son Reginald in Ledbury workhouse, in 1906 but then was at home with him in 1911 census.

Was the workhouse the same a hospital?  I didn’t think was iso easy to get out of workhouses?  Excuse my naivety

Thanks in advance

Many Workhouses had an Infirmary attached to them. You didn't have to be an inmate of the Workhouse  to be a patient in the Infirmary. This was all pre NHS and the majority of folk did not have the means to pay so were reliant on the Parish or charitable institutions.
