Looking for marriage details for Betsy Armstrong Black to John Platt I believe abt 1836 Guelph Ontario. John Platt owned the Wellington Hotel Guelph and died 1864 after being assaulted outside Hotel.

This is considerably before civil registration began in Ontario (1869). You would be lucky to find the marriage in the district marriage registers which have been transcribed and are part of Ancestry's collection.

The 1861 Census shows John and Elizabeth (Betsy) in Guelph, aged 40 and 44 respectively, both born in England with a five year old son, John. Have you checked for a marriage in England?

And old post of someone who is also researching this family:

This might suggest that Betsy was married prior to marrying John, and they may have married much later than 1836.

Just found document relating to her marriage to James Armstrong 12 Dec 1836. And another document showing she married a William Strachan 28 April 1870 aged 52. It shows her as Betsy Armstrong Platt....But been unable  to find anything on her marriage to John Platt
