As a passing thought, does a tattoo of a dirk on the calf muscle carry any special significance? Either to sailors Irish or Scots?

This was posted on one of my FB ancestry groups. I don't know how historically accurate it is, but might be of help

Wearing the kilt the dirk (Sgian Dubh) was shoved into the top of the stocking so a tattooed dirk on the calf is quite cool!  :)

My g/g/grandad obtained his seaman's ticket in 1847.
Describing his appearance it says that he had an anchor on his left hand.
He was in the merchant navy.
Lawrie name in Fife (and elsewhere) with all its various spellings.
