Lanagan - City of London
« on: Monday 18 December 17 20:41 GMT (UK) »
Matthew Lanagan (Lannagan,Lanigan or Lannigan) and Elizabeth Hutchings ( or Hutchins) had eight children between 1839 and 1855 all registered  in City of London, I have only found one baptism for Elizabeth in 1857 at St Botolphs, Aldersgate. Four of the children died between 1844 and 1847 all registered City of London Ann born 1841 died 1844 and is buried in St Albans, Wood St., City of London An Alfred born 1843, Ann and Mary born 1846 all died in 1847(Ann and Mary were twins) I can find no further baptisms for any of the children or burials for the three that died in 1847. In 1841 the family were living Parish of St Mary Aldermanbury with St Thomas London City in 1851 6 Dudley Court London City and in 1861  Aldersgate Street London City. Any help finding any further baptisms or burials greatly appreciated. I am also looking for Matthew and Elizabeths wedding.

You have only named 5 of the 8 children - who were the other 3 and when were they born?

Not all baptismal/burial records are online

Thank you Lily I had thought about them being Catholic as Lanaghan appears a lot in Irish records. Could you tell me the source (ie where did you find the information)

Thanks Lily. Funny did not show up when I searched all records for them on FindMyPast just had a quick look and found Matthews the fathers baptism will have a look through the Catholic burials and marriages as well for the family. Looks as though there is a further Ann born 1844 I had not found will check GRO historical indexes

Another mystery unable to find a registration for 1844 Ann on Free BMD or GRO historical. I wonder if she was registered under another first name as the 1841 Ann was still alive in 1844 and was not buried until 17 November 1844 when she was shown as 3 years and 6 mths old.
Just a thought I wonder if this was the 1841 Ann who was born 2Q 1841 and was then baptised in 1844 perhaps as she was ill and she then died in the November. Looks as though I will have to get her birth certificate and see if it says 8 May

Have now received the birth certificate for Ann born 1841 which shows birth as 12 May but I think this is the Ann baptised in 1844 as the birth was registered on 19 June which if her correct date of birth was 8 May had been given would have not been within 6 weeks. Alternatively when the baptism took place  the parents could not remember exact date of birth, but I do not think they would have named a new baby Ann whilst the first was still alive.
