@Carly
I know that you haven’t confirmed the parents of Nicholas yet, but I thought I’d add a bit more anyway (good practice as I’ve been working mainly on English language stuff lately)
Here are the “huwelijksbijlagen” ... the documents that were required to allow a couple to marry. They can comprise of just a couple of pages, or 10+, you never know what to expect.
They start here for the 1834 marriage:
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:939K-F934-M8?i=968&cc=2020117 I can’t explain every field (too many), but here’s a rough outline:
#969 – “Nationale militie” – Proof of military service or why not in Petrus’ case. It describes what he looked like etc
#970 – Extract from the baptism register for Petrus
#971 – Extract from the Death Register for dad Pieter Olie (1824)
#972 - Extract from the baptism register for Elsje
#973 - Extract from the Death Register for dad Nicolaas van Nassou (1827)
#974 – “Ondertrouw” – Premarriage registration. I believe it was also used to give other people time to object (ie a bit like church banns)
#975 – part of “Ondertrouw”. Confirmation that the couple have handed in the necessary doco and some people who could be witnesses, but I have the feeling that they are more like referees for id purposes. (not 100% sure here)
