This man has the Mangakaramea connection

http://ndhadeliver.natlib.govt.nz/delivery/DeliveryManagerServlet?dps_pid=IE24446909

But no mention of a wife looking for him

Cheers Janette

Correction: images 11 and 12 are the telegrams but it just says Mrs Henderson c/o Wakanui

yes- Mrs F Henderson is on the Passenger list of the SS Wakanui - embarking at Capetown for Auckland - born in England    - (at least I think its Mrs F !)

in the Otago Daily Times 2 Sep 1902 - personal -the army are looking for him

From the above war files it appears his full name was George Rankin HENDERSON.......

Minniehaha.

Just to ease confusion here >

Army Files are for two different men.    SA 7650 ( is George Rankin HENDERSON -- b. 1883 - s/o Jane and Henry HENDERSON.  1911 = Railway employee of Warepa / 1928 -1957 = land agent at Dunedin. )

George Henderson and Elizabeth Shore - my Great Grandparents - separated around 1918 ,had been living in Temuka

we know very little of him.

George passed away in 1951 Wellington, on his death certificate - details of his wife are vague

several spaces then -"Elizabeth Griffin" -  Griffin was an old family name

info was supplied by an army friend W Cressey of the Levin RSA

Hi Tommo

Just checking out some other records for you ... but was curious that in Image # 6 of George's file where it gives a timeline of his service, it states he "returned to NZ 28 August 1902".   That is, (as far as I can tell), the same date which is showing on the date stamp on that telegram.  ???

"Mrs F. HENDERSON" appears to be travelling "in style - saloon class" (which seems a little odd) ?
*  Was she still in transit (per "Wakanui") when that telegram was sent ?

... just diverting from search for "Mrs F. Henderson" ...

*   Can you provide what details you do already have of George, please ?
(It saves us having to dig further.  ;) )

Hi Tommo

*  Do you have the marriage record (certificate or printout) for George's marriage to Elizabeth SHORE ?
[This would tell us if George was a widower when he married in 1904.    ]

*   What info do you have for Elizabeth - e.g.   was she born in NZ ?  date of death ?  who were her children ?
