On the 1911 census he was 19 years old and was a prisoner at Durham Jail any advice how to find out why he was a prisoner. Thanks.

There is only one entry I can see mentioning a Robert Jefferson, a Spittal Labourer, in the The Berwick Advertiser - Friday 26 May 1911 where he was charged with being drunk and disorderly. It was stated that this was his sixth appearance and he was fined 10s 6d with the alternative of fourteen days.

The 1911 census was on 2nd April, so before this court appearance on the 22nd May, although he may have been in prison for the same offence when the census was taken.
