There are a couple of articles in the Berwickshire News and General advertiser 3 Jan 1911 and 10 Jan 1911 which you might find of interest.

"Two Spittal youths named Robinson Stewart Jefferson (19) and Andrew Drummond (16) were charged with the larceny of a quantity of iron hurdles... both accused of stealing a quantity of lead from the roof of Messrs  J Dixon and Company's Manure Works at Spittal"

A third charge was added of stealing hammers and other tools.

A further article on the 20 Jan 1911 in the Berwick Advertiser gives detail of the case at the Quarter Sessions. Here the elder youth is called Robertson Stewart Jefferson - he appears to have been given 9 months.

Might this be your man (or a relative)?

Thank you for the information, Robertson Stewart Jefferson was a cousin to the Robert Jefferson I am interested in. He died young with the flu epidemic 1918.
