Y DNA test: Test/marker P312 & DF99
« on: Thursday 21 December 17 22:58 GMT (UK) »
I have a very close Y DNA cousin in America and we share common ancestry dating back to the 1400's.  We both have taken FtDNA tests.
His query, and mine, is how do we test for Norman ancestry and what are the markers to look for?  Also what do tests P312 and DF99 say about out ancestry?

Apologies for being so clueless, hopefully someone with a clearer understanding of Y DNA than me (that's not difficult!) will recognise the tests/markers.

Many thanks for reading this.

Philip

FTDNA have "Forums" where you can get answers to questions - you can read the Forums but have to sign up to post (it is Free)

There are also a number of "Projects"  one of which is "England Groups EIJ R1 Eng/Scot/Wales/Ireland also Norman & others (also Free to Join)

P312 is a huge group thousands of years old - with many sub groups

There is quite a lot on DF99 via Google!

Hello Kim,

Many thanks for your reply and I will follow your suggestions. Even though I'm registered with FtDNA I've only explored a fraction of what is out there, as much of it passes way above my head !

Thanks for your time in answering - much appreciated.
Seasons Greetings
