Help with William please
« on: Friday 22 December 17 08:19 GMT (UK) »
William Edward Horne born 1872 Derby. Parents Thomas Horne and Mary Ann Jacques,
Siblings
Clara b 1876
Thomas b 1879
Harriet b 1880
Albert b 1882
John b 1885
Ethel b 1890
Gertrude b 1894

Now the problem

I have been checking the Mother's maiden name on the GRO site and while the other children have Jacques as the Mother's surname William has Hutchinson.  Looked to see if the father Thomas had married before can find no record, same for the Mother Mary Ann. They married in 1876 Derby.

Any help would be appreciated

This is entirely speculative but the names John Horne and Ellen Hutchinson appear together  in Derby marriages, June quarter, 1871. Is it possible the William Edward was their child and subsequently "adopted" by Thomas and Mary Ann?

In 1881 he is in the same household as Thomas and Mary Ann but recorded as grandson of head of household.

Thomas's parents were called John and Maria Horne (Maria's maiden name was Blore) They had 5 children
John born 1850 married to Ellen Hutchinson, with William staying with his Grandparents in 1881 was the confusion as other members where also staying.

Thanks for your help.

Are you sure that the 1872 birth registration is your William Edward Horne, there are other birth registrations in Derby reg district for children with those parents surnames

In 1881 Census John and Ellen Horne are living in Derby with Alice and Joseph Valentine plus Emma M age 3 and George age 3mths. Lavinia (down as Levinia) is staying with Uncle and Aunt, Thomas and Elizabeth Gill, in Litchurch. If Ellen is coping with a new baby it is possible she has sent some of her children to stay with relatives, which is why William is staying with his grandparents.

What makes you think that William Edward born 4 years before Thomas and Mary Ann married, is their son?

Only one way to find out - bite the bullet and purchase the birth certificate!  :-\
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.
