Hi everyone, and again a big thank you to everyone for your help.

I did think earlier when researching that John Tuplin Wright may be illegitimate as could not find anything about George Tuplin Wright.

I did find the census results that you have found, I really need to buy his certificate.

This is what it says on his marriage record:

Surname    Forename         Grooms Father         Bride                  Brides Father

1887   19-May   Wright   John Tuplin   George Tuplin   Lyall   Rebecca      blank      Authorpe

Looking at the image of the marriage I notice that one of the witnesses was Lucy Hanson - possibly John's half sister??

I suspect that John's birth certificate will not name his father.  The GRO are currently running a 'PDF' service where you can obtain the details for £6 instead of the £9.25 a certificate would cost.  The only difference is the details are not embedded into a 'certificate' template.

George Hanson could have been his father and the parents married after his birth and he gave a mixture of names when he married. Does the occupation match up to George Hanson's on the marriage certificate for John?

If there is not a father named you may find a baptism that may reveal his name?

Jennifer :)

In 1871 George Hanson is listed as an Ag Lab and at the time John married his father George was listed as a Labourer

I doubt that George Hanson is his father. In the 1871 census when John is living with his mother and her husband George Hanson John is described as 'Son in Law' whereas the other children of the couple are noted as Son or daughter.

I have not yet found a baptism for John.
