Latin from 1649
« on: Saturday 23 December 17 05:31 GMT (UK) »
This is written at the end of a court document.
I’m hoping it is the decision, but I don’t hold out much hope.
Most of it seems to be the date - I can make out the 9th of April
1649 (I think).

Thanks for any help.

Taken and sworn at Derby in the county of Derby on the ninth day of April in the year of the Lord one thousand six hundred and forty nine before us <signatures>

The decision is often to be found in a separate document.

Thanks Bookbox.
I thought as much.
Do you know if it would be found in a different place than the other court documents?
I seem to have the depositions from both parties, but not the decision.

I have several of these cases from C7 at TNA. 'Court of Chancery. Six Clerks Office'
All run along the same lines.
It would be interesting to see what the final decision was in each case.

Final decrees for 1544-1875 are in class C 33. These are not indexed online by the TNA catalogue, although there are paper indexes accessible to researchers who can visit in person. See the standard research guide for more details of the records ...

http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/help-with-your-research/research-guides/chancery-equity-suits-after-1558/#2-the-records

Additionally, many final decrees were officially enrolled in the Decree Rolls in C 78 and C 79, and these rolls are gradually becoming available on the Anglo American Legal Tradition (AALT) website ...

http://aalt.law.uh.edu/

AALT has its own Wiki, which helps with coverage and with navigating the documents that have been uploaded there.

Many thanks BookBox. Not able to visit TNA unfortunately.
I've seen the Waalt site before, and did find a couple of other things on there - I shall have to check again to see if anything new has been added since I looked.
