May of may not be of use but there was a spy in Italy in WW1 names Rudloph GERLAOLI aka Von GERLACH
It looks as if the surname could be GERLAOLI but I don't know for definite

It is helpful. It might be a work by I A Gilodi in 1930s, I found a piece of work with similar signature.
