Army Lists (officers) any early years online?
« on: Saturday 23 December 17 14:38 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for online editions of the Army List which I believe to have been published each year from 1702.  The National Library of Scotland has a long run of them but it appears to start later than my interest.
I am interested in the career of Francis Lind of the 14th Regiment of Foot (or one of its earlier titles*) who was listed in 1754 as Lieutenant from 22 June 1745 and as surgeon from 3 June 1726.
He had qualified as a doctor of medicine before his army service and may have held a dual role.  He died in Gibraltar in 1759.
*1685: Hales's
1688: Beveridge's
1692:Tidcomb's
1713: Clayton's
1743: Price's

Any suggestions about the regiment's service in Scotland during 1745 would also be useful.

Thank you for those references.  His rank of captain seems to have come at the very end of his life and I am curious about his apparent dual role in the regiment.

With reference to his medical role, you might look at Peterkin and Drew, Commissioned Officers in the Medical Services of the British Army, 1660-1960.

Thank you for more references, which I had seen.  I am hoping that a contact will be able to  look at the Discovery item for me after the holidays.

Per Roll of Commissioned Officers in the Medical Service of the British Army, 1727-1898 he resigned from his position as regimental surgeon in 1758.
