Myres Staffordshire/Warwickshire Betsey
« on: Sunday 24 December 17 02:05 GMT (UK) »
Hello,

I just wondered if there might be someone who could help me please with an ancestor called Betsey/Betsy Myres dob 1829/1830 Birmingham.

I have copied what I know about her below, I can't find her marriage to Isaac anywhere, or her death, it is as if she vanishes, I have tried variant given names including Elisabeth and Elizabeth. In 1851 she and Isaac have a daughter called Betsey (jnr) and I can find no trace of her in future census records, they also have Betsy's daughter Ann Boyde (whom she had at 13, I am not sure if Boyde is Betsey's maiden name or that of Ann's father) she also vanishes after 1851 - no death registration for either. I can't access the 1861 census where they are at township city Worcestershire England so am not sure if the 2 girls have gone by then. I wonder what happened to Betsey, Betsey and Ann. Isaac is with a Margaret in 1871.

The Myres family are a bit mysterious. Sadly when my great grandma was a little girl, her parents split up.
Many members of the family end up in Canada over time, I am not sure who went first. Maybe the vanished people ended up there?

An Arthur E Myres/ A E Myres goes to Quebec in 1909 and 1912 on the  Virginian and Teutonic respectively (not sure if they are the same person). On the 1912 journey he is with an '?? Myres Born ??' - this could be the boy taken (or an illegible entry that couldn't be deciphered on digitising). I have been told he might have been called Chris but I am not sure and I can't find a registered birth for a Myres boy in Staffordshire between 1900 and 1910 that seems to fit the bill, maybe he wasn't born in Staffs like most of the others.

Besty's son Isaac had an Isaac Myres born 1858, who had Arthur Edward Myres (known as Edward) in 1880, who had my g.grandma Florence Maud Myres in 1900 with Louisa Palmer.

Hi
I think Arthur E Myres mother was a Louisa/Lucy
Not sure if this is his family( wife and Daughter) in 1901
3 Coleman Street Woverhampton
Edward Myrs  head mar 21  Railway engine Fitter    Wednesbury,Staffs.
Sarah A   "      wife  mar  20                                    Wolverhampton
Florence M "    dau            1                                      "

An Arthur Edward Myers marries a Sarah Ann Turner JAS 1899 Wolverhampton
New Gro indices with mmn give
Florence Maud Myers  registered JQ 1900 Wolverhampton  mmn Turner
Albert Edward Christian George Myers  registered MQ 1902 Wolverhampton mmn Turner

I wonder if that is where the name Chris came from

Florence Maud Myers can be found with mother Sarah Ann in last available census.  There is no Albert Edward (son or husband listed) unable to post due to copyright.

Think the 1909 passenger list to Montreal, Canada aboard the Virginian on 30 April from Liverpool is very likely them. With A E Myers is a child A E Myers, no ages given.

Herbert is on 1911 census, which would be half sibling to Florence.

Name:   Mother's Maiden Surname:
WALTERS, HERBERT  GEORGE WALTERS    mmn TURNER
GRO Reference: 1909  S Quarter in WOLVERHAMPTON  Volume 06B  Page 602

Then this marriage, think Sarah reverted back to her Maiden name.

Marriages Dec Q 1913
Turner    Sarah A   - Walters    Wolverhampton    6b   1255
Walters    Herbert G    - Turner    Wolverhampton    6b   1255

So seems Albert & Albert Jnr left before 1911 and Sarah was likely free to marry by late 1913.

The child born in 1909 happened because Sarah was having a relationship with Mr Walters and possibly that was the end of the marriage to Albert, or possibly the marriage had ended earlier.

Just to add - Louisa Palmer was wife of Isaac b 1858.

****

Another child of Betsey, which would fit with a 1849 marriage, bapt on familysearch 2 Nov 1851 parents Isaac & Betsey. Abode Wednesbury, father a confectioner.

Name:   Mother's Maiden Surname:
MIERS, MARY  ANN     mmn MARTIN

Hi Cath, seems likely them. I don't have a world sub either.

Happy Xmas  :)

ADDED image is available on familysearch, A E Myers is age 30 in May 1909 and an engineer, which would match occ in 1901.  Jnr A E C G is down as Child but no age given on original doc.
