Hi Ian,

DOB came from his English Death Certificate; which matches his declared age at marriage.
I have no documentary proof of place of birth; just family say-so.

Children born in England:
Charles Gustav 1912-1998
Ivy Matilda 1913-2005
Hilda F 1915-2005
Kenneth 1917-1999
John Edwin Percy 1919-1995
Donald 1925-2009
Jean R 1931-1995

Despite his marriage in 1911, I can't (yet!) find him in 1911, although his wife is living at the address stated on Marriage Certificate.

Father was Carl August Karlsson - occupation tailor

Hi rosie99
I presume this is a transcription and I am wondering if tailor is really sailor?

Hi KGarrad

Is there a possibility he was a seaman?
also the date between  the 1911 census and his marriage was pretty far apart and he might not probably be in the census.

I was wondering about him being a mariner, too!

1911 census was taken in April; marriage in November.
He only had to be around for the banns to be called - 3 weeks?

I'm currently at my daughter's in North Somerset. I might just have time to visit Bristol Record Office before I go back home? Need to check opening times for this week.
If so, I can see the original marriage entry, and check the occupation.

I am currently at Bristol Record Office :D

The occupation of the father (Carl August Carlsson) is definitely Tailor! ::)

Both the vicar and the curate made entries in the register; the vicar made the entry in question, and looking at other entries by him, he writes an "S" very distinctively and clearly; it can't be confused with any other letter.

His "T" on the other hand looks somewhat like a backwards capital "C"?

Hannah Bailey can be found on the 1911 census, living at the address given on the marriage entry  - 38 County Street.
On that census, she is sister-in-law to the head of the family; Frank Alfred Wicketts and his wife Alice.
This couple are the witnesses on the marriage entry.

Hm this is challenging.
Just thinking if the 1939 census would state his town of birth.
Also I really need more info. Do they know if there could be another date of birth as there is nothing with the one on his death record.
I am also wondering if this is his real name.......  If he was a seaman he may have changed his name if he jumped ship..... I have seen this before.
I'll keep looking to see if anything pops up.
