I am tying to source an Obituary for someone who died in the Bronx in Jul 1970 I am after subscribing to some newspaper archives online but no luck so far would anyone know the most likely Newspaper to have an obituary for someone died in the area in 1970? Thanks.

In my experience, the odds are not good of finding an obituary for someone from the Bronx online.  There is a link to the NY Times obituaries on a subscription site here - http://www.deathindexes.com/newyork/city.html - but I think those obituaries required payment to be placed and people from the Bronx were generally more working class.  Of the citywide newspapers, the Daily News was probably more commonly used for obituaries, but I don't think the older obituaries are online.

There is a RAOGK volunteer (JM) who will research birth and death certificates at the Municipal Archives in lower Manhattan (New York County), which includes Bronx, Kings, Queens and Richmond Counties, on request from people seeking information on their relatives. Perhaps you could ask if they would check for an obituary might be a small charge though.
