Hi David, This is during the Cromwellian Commonwealth Period when marriages were conducted by a registrar appointed by the government. Remember too, that this area of Cambridgeshire is situated very close to Huntingdon where Oliver Cromwell was born in 1599, and was strongly for Cromwell. Benstead features in my own maternal tree, later from the 18th century onwards, usually marrying an Ayres or Cornwell!!
Ayres Brignell Cornwell Harvey Shipp  Stimpson Stubbings (all Cambs) Baumber Baxter Burton Ethards Proctor Stanton (all Lincs) Luffman (all counties)
