Looking for Clarks (in Kent) and McLaughlins (in Lancaster)
« on: Wednesday 27 December 17 13:24 GMT (UK) »
Hello Everyone,

I wasn't sure which forum to post this in because of the two different locations.

I haven't been on Rootschat for a very long time, but I do remember that in the past people were extremely helpful.      I'm wondering now whether anyone can help me with this.

I have my cousin's grandparents marriage certificate, showing his grandfather John Clark aged 29, of 149 Magpie Hall Road, Chatham, Kent, marrying his grandmother Mary Agnes McLoughlin, 26, of 9 Bath Mill Cottages, Lancaster, in St. Peter's Church, East Road Lancaster (RC) on 13th September 1909.

John Clark's father is called William Clark, a storekeeper and Mary Agnes's father is Charles McLoughlin a Labourer.    The witnesses are W. H. Clark and Mary E. Clark.

I have tried every possible combination I can think of in the records to try to track their birth registration, or their location in any of the census records since their birth, and have failed miserably.

I did find a marriage in an on line parish clerk's records for a Charles McLaughlin of the right age in the right neighbourhood on 24.July 1880 to an Elizabeth Ann Wilson.    This was in a Cof E church and may or may not be the same Charles.

I am really flagging now, and would appreciate any help that more effective searchers may be able to give me.

Yes, that's them all right, Rosie.    What I'm trying to do is to trace them in the records before that marriage in 1909 and hopefully trace their parents back further.    If you can see anything further back in the mists of time, I'd be most grateful!

Rose, this is amazing!!    Thank you SO much.    I can see now that the witnesses on the marriage cert were John's brother and sister.

But, what is going on in 1891?     The Clarks are all living at the address given by John's McLaughlin bride nearly twenty years later??      Are the McLaughlins there too?

It would appear that it is the Clarks who are resident at 9 Bath Mill Cottages they were there from at least 1891

Oh, sorry I've just read your last comment about them being there all the time.    How odd.   Well, I wonder now whether the Charles McLaughlin I found in the OnLine Parish records is the one after all.   S   (Can see your further post and will read that now.)
