The army records of PFJ Fawcett-Barry (service number P119100, dob 7/2/1889) are still held by the Ministry of Defence.

You can apply for a copy. There's a £30 fee.

There is a page open for him on https://livesofthefirstworldwar.org/lifestory/221408#facts
but not a lot of information added to it thus far

there is a medal index card added by Imperial War Museums but you need to subscribe to view it

You have probably found them by now but the Fawcett-Barry papers are at the Imperial War Museum
http://www.iwm.org.uk/collections/item/object/1030006642.

The Tolkien link is because JRR Tolkien served as a junior offer in the same (11th Battalion).

Many thanks everyone so far I have a learnt quite alot from all your help. I have my forms filled in and a cheque enclosed for£30 and will get it in the post tomorrow for his service details. The papers he has lodged with the IWM I certainly would love to see, I will get in touch with them and see how much copying is involved first, if they even do that and how much!!! Cheers everyone and a Happy New Year. Gerry

I have his service records and his miniature set of medals. The full size set did not include his African service medal. I have a photo of the original auction lots which included a picture of him. Contact me though my email. (*)  Gerry

Hello,

Can anyone confirm if Patrick Fawcett Barry served in Malaya during the Malayan Emergency between 1948 to 1960? Or did he maybe reside in Malaya during this time?

I am trying to trace a relative who possibly served as a Lieutenant in 1957 and left Malaya in 1959. His initials are P J Fawcett.

Please get in touch if you have any information!

Thank you in advance!
