The one I am looking at is born c 1784(1841 Census) and 1798 (1851 Census) but image of age 1851 is hard to read so may be 1778?.

He died 1860

SPENCE, JAMES,  age 85 ***
GRO Reference: 1860  J Quarter in LAMBETH  Volume 01D  Page 235

On the marriage certificate  james lists his age as 27 (1815) and wife Jane is 17.  The 1851 census says his birth was 1798, but actually that is Jane's birth year.

Math would have him born around 1788. I have a lot of info on his children, but no one has been able to find his parents or if any siblings.

Hi,

I found this,

Chester Chronicle 03 February 1815
Married
Yesterday at St Oswald's, by the Rev. J Ireland, James SPENCE Esq. of Montego Bay, Jamaica to Jane Elizabeth, youngest daughter of Mr R Jones, of Eastgate Street, in this city.

Spence seems to be quite a popular name in Jamaica.

Regards,
Daisy

Yes, the actual marriage certificate goes into more details...James Spence's age in 1715 listed as 27.  His wife's father is present as a witness at the marriage, but no parent of James seems to be present.  Perhaps decreased.

It is his parents that no one has been able to locate.  I haven't found a christening record for him on IOW.
