I have also looked at the children of Dennis and Mary and these indicate a maiden name of Donovan.

So maybe Mary Donovan had a relationship with a Mr Canty before her marriage to Dennis? 

I think I would get the birth certificate for Joanna and probably the marriage certificate for Dennis and Mary next.
