RAF Service Records WW1
« on: Thursday 28 December 17 15:14 GMT (UK) »
My grandmother's brother, Herbert Cyril Fleetwood was in the RAF between 1918 and 1919.  His service records are on the Find My Past website but I cannot interpret any of them.  He was born 22 May 1900 in Birmingham, Warwickshire and his attestation date was 18 June 1918, Service Number 198287.  In particular, I have been trying to read his dispersal centre which looks like Chuoeldon. I cannot locate this on either the defunct or current RAF bases.  Could anyone assist me with his mystery?

Hi bobcats and welcome to Rootschat..I thought it looked like Category 13. I...18/6/18 then Cat. 13. 2
21/2/19...the latter date was the date he was transferred to RAF  G. Reserve.

It does look like Chiseldon doesn't it.

RD RAF Depot at Blandford
STHC – School of Training Halton Camp (RAF experts are not entirely certain about this but Halton did have a training centre for fitters
59 TDS – Training Depot Station – at Scopwick Lincolnshire
57 TDS – at Cranwell
And yes – Chiseldon camp near Swindon which at the end of the war became a dispersal centre
The release to Class G reserve meant that he was liable to recall if the war had re-started.  The liability ceased in 1920.

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

More confirmation.

"Following the armistice, Chiseldon became a demobilization centre which managed the carefully controlled release of men back into the community, processing up to 10,000 men a day".
