A Cheshire Burial Search
« on: Thursday 28 December 17 18:00 GMT (UK) »
Does anyone happen to have MI's for Northwich, Little Leigh, St Michael All Angels?

I have a Cheshire parish record of burial (no church name given)   and  a death cert for Samuel BURROWS  registered for Comberbach, he and his brothers were born in  Little Leigh so I'm hoping he's buried there as he doesn't seem to be at Gt Budworth St Mary

or any other churches you can suggest in 1858 would be helpful.
Thanks

...  I have all that but was hoping for the actual church  ...

You just need to stick it all together.

1. The Cheshire Parish Registers are on FamilySearch - the entry there reads
Quote
Name    Samuel Burrows
Event Type    Burial
Event Date    13 Jun 1858
Event Place    , Great Budworth, Cheshire, England
Gender    Male
Age (Formatted)    26y

England, Cheshire Parish Registers, 1538-2000
GS Film number    2298977
Digital Folder Number    004019165
Image Number    00140

2. The important thing (and why I went to FamilySearch) is the Film Number.

3. Go to the FamilySearch Catalog on https://www.familysearch.org/catalog/search, click Film/Fiche Number to reveal the box to enquire on the film, enter 2298977 there and click enter.

That gives:
Quote
Items 1 - 2: Parish registers for Great Budworth, 1558-1956
Author:   Church of England. Parish Church of Great Budworth (Cheshire); Cheshire Record Office

Items 3 - 5: Parish books for Great Budworth, 1699-1853
Author:   Church of England. Parish Church of Great Budworth (Cheshire)

You can't tell which item it is, so try each and see what you get. Item 1 shows "Parish registers for Great Budworth, 1558-1956". Scroll down the page of PRs and you'll find film "2298977 Items 1 - 2" - which is what we're looking for - "Burials, 1839-1892"

4. So it's the register for the Church of England parish of Great Budworth. http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/CHS/greatbudworth makes it clear that there is only one Church of England church in Great Budworth. If there were multiple CofE churches there'd only be one parish church - the rest are often referred to as chapels. The church, Samel's place of burial, is St. Mary and All Saints.

Ah so!

Why didn't  I think of that  ;D

Although I was working from findmypast and not familysearch, but I used to do that sort of thing with the IGI batch numbers yonks ago

Thank you both, excuse my dimness

I have a transcription of G Budworth parish church burials and it doesn't include this family, so now I know that it's not complete, they probably didn't have a headstone though as they were paupers

burrows
page 14 on the burial link has the official record and states Samuel abode as Comberbach ..the only church in Comberbach is a Methodist church
http://www.comberbach.com/index.php/groups/12-methodist-church-sunday-school
