Looking for a missing death - Martha O'Hara
« on: Friday 29 December 17 00:05 GMT (UK) »
Hi All

Am looking for a missing death for Martha O'Hara (nee Kilpatrick). Martha has on some records been recorded as Mary and under umpteen different spelling of O'Hara (including Harrow). Her husband John I know died before March 1855 because he is shown as deceased on his eldest son Daniel's marriage cert on 2/3/1855 but she was shown as still living.

I haven't been able to find her on any census post 1851where they are recorded as OHaro (no apostrophe) at 57 High St, Paisley. There is also a contradiction in terms of her place of birth. The 1841 says Ireland but the 1851 says Paisley. She married in Paisley and all her many children were born there. She was born about 1814 going by the age on the 1851.

I'm still working my way through her childrens BMDs but I know she was definitely gone by 1880 as she is shown on a marriage cert as deceased.

If anyone is able to locate a death cert for her I'd really appreciate it

Best Wishes

Ann

If she was born around 1814 she would only have been in her early 40's when widowed.  Could she have re-married?

Have you checked whether she is with a married daughter under the wrong surname?

Hi Carole

She's definitely not with her family as have census for each of them. For the certs I have found for them (work in progress) she's not shown as having re-married which I would have expected but thanks cos it's an angle I'd not thought about :D

Thanks

Archibald died in the poorhouse in 1893  :'(

Could this be her...

KILPATRICK MARTHA
65 (b c 1814)
1879
572/1 12 Neilston (Renfrew)

There's a corresponding death with surname Little although I don't see a marriage for her but I have in my own tree couples who lived together (presumed to have been married) so may be worth looking at as the age/birth year & area match & all married women in Scotland are recorded by their maiden surname as well as marital surname on death?

Not finding a re-marriage for her. Tho they were RC some of the children did marry in C of S so have checked all churches and - nothing.

The places where they did live were pretty bad so I don't think she'd have had a particularly long life - suspect that's why so many of them did end up in the workhouse  :'(

Ann, Sorry !! :(

Was she consistent using Martha on all docs or did she ever use any other name?
