GALWAY SMITH MOONEY ADOPTION
« on: Friday 29 December 17 04:41 GMT (UK) »
I'm looking for a woman named Daphne who had children in the 1950s, was married in the 1940s in New South Wales, Australia, and may have been born into a family named Galway. Daphne was adopted when she was young. The couple who adopted her were George and Millicent (actually Margaret, nee Mooney of Hillgrove NSW area) Smith. Daphne was my grandmother's adopted sister. I don't know if the adoption was legal or formalised. Any help would be appreciated.

Formal, legal, adoption came into being in England in about 1927.
But there is no guarantee that Daphne's birth was registered as Daphne?

There are formal procedures to go through to find an adoptee's records:

Garrad (Suffolk, Essex, Somerset), Crocker (Somerset), Vanstone (Devon, Jersey), Sims (Wiltshire), Bridger (Kent)

Was Daphne actually born in England? Do you know her date of birth?
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!
