I also first thought of a "Half Nelson" - where the arm is twisted up the victim's back, and held so that further movement would be really painful - when I saw the heading.
-Interesting, but probably not real, a friend who lived in East Lancs also had the term "Three-Quarters Padiham" for an even tighter, more painful hold! (Padiham is a small town in the same area as Nelson)
Threlfall (Southport), Isherwood (lancs & Canada), Newbould + Topliss(Derby), Keating & Cummins (Ireland + lancs), Fisher, Strong& Casson (all Cumberland) & Downie & Bowie, Linlithgow area Scotland . Also interested in Leigh& Burrows,(Lancashire) Griffiths (Shropshire & lancs), Leaver (Lancs/Yorks) & Anderson(Cumberland and very elusive)

I like the term "Three Quarters Padiham", making a  joke out of the towns of Padiham and Nelson, but I think the term Nelson here is supposed to refer to Admiral Nelson and his battle-winning strategies.   I just remember the hold was quite painful as applied by my brother.  ;D
