SMITH, John Henry
« on: Saturday 30 December 17 04:57 GMT (UK) »
John Henry Smith was born C1871 at St. Pancras and married May Ann Blackmore.  The 1901 Census have them living at 25 Peckwater Street, St. Pancras and he is a Post Office worker.  His wife supposedly born Chalk Farm London C1870 and their children Agnes born C1893, and John George C1895 were both born in Islington. I have information on John George and nothing more about the other 3, except that of the 1911 Census.  Any other information about them would be a lottery win.  Smith from London must be like Jones from Wales - where does one start!!!!!??????

Possible for John in 1891 Living at Peckwater Street, Pancras

Charles Fernee     30 Coal Porter - b Pancras
Mary    Fernee 35    b Pancras
Charles Fernee     5 b Pancras
William Fernee     3 b Pancras
George Fernee    0 b Pancras
John    Smith Brother In Law    21    Telegraphist Porter b Pancras

Charles Fernee is listed as this John Smith's brother in law and Charles married a Mary Morton Silitoe on 03 Aug 1884 at Regent's Park St Mark,

I think Mary in baptised Mary Morton Sillitoe on 26 Apr 1857 with parents Clara and William.  A tree on Anc lists mother Clara as being widowed (edit - found a death of a Willliam Sillitoe age 33 GRO Ref 1857  March Qrtr ST PANCRAS  Vol 01B  Page 101) and remarrying a George Smith in 1860 in Windsor

This might be the family in 1871 https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:VBDC-MLC  however George is listed as a private soldier not a shoemaker  :-\

Kay

Added - Possible mother Clara Smith/Sillitoe's maiden name was Stevens (marriage to William Richard Sillitoe in 1854 in St Pancras).

The GRO Birth Index has the birth of a John Henry Smith   Sept Qrter 1870  PANCRAS  Vol 01B  Page 10 with mother's maiden name Stevens  and the birth of older brother George Smith b 1866 in Windsor also with mother's maiden name Stevens and middle name Frederick

This ties in well with the witness George Frederick Smith on your John Henry Smith's marriage cert

Wow, you are fantastic.  Thank you soooo much Kay99 and rosie99.  I can now check out these clues.  We have some information on John Henry after he was married and only from the census did we find John George had a sister Agnes Margaret.   :D informs me she died at an early age, which I have yet to verify.  Now this further information gives a greater picture of the family.  John George lived to marry, survive WW1 as a soldier, have 4 children and many grandchildren.  Hope I may repay by helping someone else break down a blank wall. :D :D

Good luck and come back if you have any problems  :)

Kay

Forgot to say I think this could be Clara Stevens/Sillitoe/Smith  with mother in 1861.    The image lists her as married  https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:VBDC-MLQ

Thank you Kay.  Do you know how I might be able to obtain a copy of the marriage certificate?
