Alfred Verran - missing records
« on: Saturday 30 December 17 19:24 GMT (UK) »
Hello everyone,

I'm looking for information about my great uncle, Alfred Verran (possible middle name John) who was born in Cornwall, UK in June/July 1900 and who emigrated to Oregon in 1921.  He wrote home regularly but his letters suddenly stopped in 1944 and my family never heard of him again, despite placing adverts in local newspapers.  I have his birth index list, passenger list in 1921 to Ellis Island and his last mention was in the 1940's US census when he was living in Clark, Washington with his host and extended family member Walter Schoene.

I found a death record for a Alfred C Verran in Yakima County, WA in 1981 - the age fits but I have no means of further verification.

If anyone can offer further assistance, it would be appreciated.

Many thanks.

Jo

Welcome to Rootschat

Presume the ancestry tree is yours ?

The SSDI gave 30 June 1900 as the birth date, was that correct ?
Last Residence 98944 Sunnyside, Yakima, Washington,.

If nothing materilizes on here - There is a RAOGK volunteer willing to take photos and look ups of cemeteries in Yakima, Yakima County, Washington - wonder if its worth an e-mail to see if she can help further (JA - 5th from bottom on this link)

If you are interested enough to want to buy the death certificate, there's information about doing so here - https://www.digitalarchives.wa.gov/Record/View/7CF8996191A5811BAC40D830C012104E

It may be a bit of a long shot, but you could contact the public library in the area where he died and see if they are able to do obituary look-ups.  Sometimes they will take pity and do it for free if you say you're far away.  There is an Email the Librarian link here - http://www.yvl.org/

Sandra, Shelly,

Please bear with me while I digest all the info that's come from here and the Who Do You Think You Are forum, it's all so helpful I'm feeling pretty humbled by everyone's interest and time!  More spare time this afternoon to start processing your tips - I'll be back.

Many, many thanks.
