Jacob Gale 1839 - 1892 Bettws Newydd
« on: Saturday 30 December 17 20:16 GMT (UK) »
Hello, We are completely stuck on Jacob Gale, Born 1839 Malmesbury, Wiltshire. married Elizabeth Emma Powell on 7 Apr 1860 • Baptist Chapel Frogmore Street, Abergavenny, Monmouth, Wales (Certificate held). Jacob died 1892 and was buried 17 Aug 1892 Trostrey, Monmouthshire, Wales, abode Bettws Newydd. We cannot confirm his exact birth as a couple of Jacobs come up in wiltshire around his time. But the marriage certificate states his father as Robert Gale an Ag Laborer. We cannot find Jacob census for 1871 when he was married and was in the Skenfirth area. nor can we 1841 or 1851 to try and find his parents and any siblings. Any help gratefully revcieved.

The only Jacob Gale I can see on the GRO birth index around that time is registered under Chipping Sodbury with mmn Hall. While there are other births with that combination, two stand out-Isaac(1842) and Jeremiah(1849).Have to go out now, will look again later if no-one has found anything.

Regards
Roger

If they married in a Baptist chapel then there may be no baptism to find, some births went unregistered in the early days of registration.

The registrations in Chipping Sodbury appear to relate to the family of Isaac and Sarah Gale -1851 census HO107/1956/350/9.In 1841 there is a George Hall with the Gales, close to the family of Isaac and Sarah Hall!
With the location difference and no Robert present this looks like the wrong family.

Roger

Yes a lot of people seem to have gone the Issac route, which cannot be correct as the marriage certificate says Robert.

Update - We have the order the birth certificate for Chipping Sodbury and this is not our Jacob as the father is stated as Issac. So we are still stuck opn this one. In the census's we have found Jacob's birthplace is stated at either Malmesbury, Wiltshire or Chippenham, Wiltshiare, so this is the area, but we have no access to parish records of this area and are unsure if there is any other indexes for possible other birth certificates. A Robert Gale seems to be non-existant.

We still cannot find Jacob in 1871, 1851 or 1841. Stumped. Ideas please, we are travelling to Wales soon so may be able to make a pit stop on route.
