George Thomas King b.1916 d.2002
« on: Sunday 31 December 17 19:05 GMT (UK) »
My 1st cousin, x 1 removed George Thomas King was born in Plymouth 1916 and died Norfolk 2002.
I have been contacted by his Grand daughter to see if I have any info on the circumstances that prompted him to move ( his parents appear to move too).

She says
" Is there any information that you know of my grandad during the war of his family as they had a tragic loss of life, my grandad lost his wife and children before he moved to Norwich."

"he never gave names or spoke about them but we knew he had a family before he moved after the war. He said that you will never find out as all the records was in a fire from the bombing.

He obviously re married in 1954, but I cannot find any records of an earlier marriage.
George's Father was my Grans older brother, she had moved into the East Cornwall area and I know nothing of her extended family.
Anybody any suggestions please?

Have you looked for him on the 1939 register?  Was he married at that time?

Full DoB 23.4.16

EDIT

I think he may be the 1939 entry in Billericay Essex - no birthyear shown on free index

Have you looked on www.cwgc.org for King civilian deaths during WW2

Looking at the deaths during the war years for Devon on the FreeReg site I can find the deaths of a Gladys M King aged 29 and a Christopher J King age 0 in Exeter. I cannot see any other deaths which could be mother and child/children. The ref for both deaths is

Jun 1942 Exeter 5b 168

Unfortunately I cannot find a marriage for a George King to a Gladys nor the birth ref for a Christopher J King.

There is a marriage in Newton Abbot for a George King to a Vera Gladys Mary Peadon but that particular George was born in 1913 and that is confirmed by his birthdate on the 1939 Register so they can be discounted.

Perhaps the only way to be certain that Gladys is the right person would be to get the death cert to see what name it gives for her husband.

Thanks CaroleW. At least that can be discounted as a possibility.

Hi folks, apologies for absence from conversation, visitors now gone home.
George Thomas was living at his parents in law's home during 1911 census(Thomas Pascoe and Sarah Martin)
There are records for connected "Martin" family on CWGC list of civilian casualties at Plymouth. (no Kings) I am/will strive to see if there is a link.

Depending on his financial circumstances he may or may not have a will. However there is one George Thomas King who had a will probated in 2002. Will probated in Oxford which is not Norfolk but not impossible. This GTK died 15 March 2002.
