You didn't mention QOOH except in the title of your thread but I'd say that both his cap badge and his collar dogs do appear to be those of that regiment and not of any of the others you mentioned.  If there is a possible name one could see if there any records extant.

Using the newspaper report:

Albert E O'Connor served overseas first in 2 Ox and Bucks LI and then 3 Worcesters.

The only William O'Connor Gloucester Regiment served overseas in 2nd Leinsters, 7th Leinsters, Labour Corps and finally the 17th Gloucesters.  He was invalided out wounded with a Silver War Badge in November 1918.

No QOOH references for either.  If they served in UK with that regiment then there would be no medal information relating to that service.

Good evening,

With what the newspaper report says and the fact that the photo shows 3 wound stripes. There is a better than even chance that it is William in the photo.

I agree with John.  William's final unit was 17th Battalion Gloucesters, a home defence battalion. Edits - See my later post.   His uniform looks new as if, on return from France, he had been re-equipped with a nice new tunic complete with all his hard won badges.  He is wearing a black covered button in memory of (presumably) brother Albert who had died in September so the photo is Sep-Nov 1918.

If it is Albert in the original photo (and the features are quite different to the man in the late pic), the lack of QOOH references on his medal records simply means he did not serve overseas with them.
