My g/g/grandfather seems to have changed his name twice between censuses.
1891 George Henry Davenport, Cirencester, Registrar
1901 Albert G Bromley, Swindon, House Painter
1911 Victor George Bromley, Swindon, House Decorator
The date/place of birth is consistent, as is the spouse and all the children, although they also become Bromley. I have found details of death, reverting to original name of G H Davenport.
Due to the change in profession, I am wondering if there was something untoward that led to a name change being necessary. Would it have been common practice to change a family's name? I guess at a push Albert to Victor could be poor recording on the census.
Any ideas? Thanks
