Online newspaper obituaries in the Chariton Democrat, Iowa for 1892......

Hi,

Could anyone please tell me if there are online obituaries for the Chariton Democrat, Iowa, for February 1892.  The son of my 3 x great grandfather went to the U.S.A. from England and died on 4th February 1892 age 43.  His name was David Whitney.

I don't see any online archives.  The Chariton Democrat expired in 1904 and was replaced by the Chariton Leader which is still in operation.  Here is Leader website and also the Chariton Public Library.

It seems that there is an obituary.  At the public library site, click on genealogy.  Lucas County Genealogical Society has prepared a searchable index of all the names mentioned in Chariton newspapers.  There is one reference to David Whitney -  appears to be an obituary.  There are numerous references to other Whitneys.

Yes, there is an obit for him on 11 Feb. 1892.

Plus mention of his wife & estate a week later 18 Feb.

There have been several deaths in this vicinity. David Whitney died last Thursday with the dropsy and heart disease. He was buried in the Chariton cemetery last Friday.

I was surprised to see that a wife has surfaced.  I didn't think he ever married.
