I was really wondering where the information came from that Peter was the father of James Fawcett/Thompson.  Is James your direct line  :-\

If you would like us to continue looking for your James on census prior to 1871 could you please give us the details including reference number from that census.

If the sole source of James father being Peter is on his marriage certificate please bear in mind that this information was sometimes wrong.

Hope we can help  :)

Thanks for the reply Rosie,  my Fawcett family came from Sligo, the Bridget Fawcett who married Thomas prest came from Dublin, saw this on a census. I have what I think could be my James martin Fawcett on the 1861 census he has himself as Martin Fawcett age 28 born Ireland occupation Tinner
With wife Elizabeth age 23, I think his wife was Elizabeth Proctor married 1858, RG09 3541 99 5 Hill top Tadcaster. Is there anyway I can prove this is my james Fawcett without buying the marriage cert.

I see he was also Martin in 1871 and James M when he died.  :)  It is generally easier to work backwards, that is probably why we were having problems finding him.  ;)

It looks as though the family did not come to England until the mid/late 1840's
