Brick wall help needed please
« on: Tuesday 02 January 18 14:35 GMT (UK) »
I have checked Civil Records for a marriage of a John Sheehan & Kate (Catherine Lawton) midleton co cork no result. I have found Baptism records (at source) for 2 children namely Michael Sheehan 18 Oct 1877 & Hanora 27 Nov 1879.
Both- John Died 1879 & Kate died 1880
Michael born 1877 enlisted in army in 1899 in Tralee & gave NOK as a sister Katie residing in Chicago - I have failed to locate any birth details for Katie baptism or Civil. She must have been born prior to Michael in 1870's as both parents are dead by 1880. Thank you.

Give a man a record and you feed him for a day.
Teach a man to research, and you feed him for a lifetime.

Have you tried to find Kate in Chicago, 1900 Census or a marriage perhaps, I know it's likely to just say Ireland but you might get lucky, get her age at least.
I had a go but FamilySearch doesn't seem to like me at the moment.

I can see a civil record for Michael but not Hanora.
Do you know what happened to Hanora? I wonder if she is Kate?

Have checked civil record for Hanora as you say none Her baptism I got today visited church registers & No baptism for Katie. I dont think one could put names Katie/Hanora together.
Checked Civil records for death for Hanora there is 1 possibility death of a Hanora Sheehan address Carrigane Carrigtwohill age 16 months on 13 March 1881 Mary Cotter present.
The children were only very young when both parents died so they must have went to live with relatives possibly Tks for reply

Tks Sinann did have a look at ship records & marriage but no luck. Must look again at Michaels enlistment record & details for NOK given. Katie had to be born before Michael & Hanora I think as parents died 1879 & 1880

....sister Katie, Chicago........sounds like a very casual record for NOK?

I think you need to check the document you are using.

No I wouldn’t put the names together but as I couldn’t find a civil record for Hanora, nor indeed Kate, I wondered if she had assumed her mother’s name after her mother died or was registered with one name and known as another.
