George Cushley/Cushnahan and Sarah Clarke marriage
« on: Tuesday 02 January 18 21:49 GMT (UK) »
Hello,

Bit of a confusing one! I'm looking for a marriage of George Cushley (AKA Cushnahan) and Sarah Clarke (AKA Letters), which may have taken place in the Ballymena, Ahoghill, Randalstown area.

This was, I believe a 'mixed' marriage. They baptised their children RC but when they moved to Belfast they became CoI. That's when the name switched from Cushnahan to Cushley.

I do believe Sarah Letters/Clarke was from Ahoghill.

Thanks

An idea of a date would help.
I see they had a son in 1868
Thomas

 Ballymena
Parents George Cushnahan and Sarah Clarke.
Do you know if there were earlier children?

Sinann, They did indeed and besides Thomas, they also had:

George b abt 1859/60
Robert b. abt 1865
William b. 1871
John b. 1871 (twin of William)

So, i'm guessing they married 1859 or before...mind you, you never know, but I can't find anything later.

That early if the marriage was RC it won't have a civil cert and you would need to find it in the Parish records.
Otherwise if not RC I don't see a Civil Cert in Ballymena but Sarah could have been from another area, marriages usually happen in the brides parish.

I suspected so, I was hoping I could find a Clarke/Letters marriage. But I can't find that either. Off to Proni I'll go in the year!

Yes,

Twins, William and John were baptised in Ballymena Workhouse (27 May 1871), and George was baptised in Randalstown on 8jul 1859- but I can't make out the downland of residence.

Tricky folks, aren't they.

Found George, I'd say that is the 18th
Think it say Workhouse Antrim, with Crosskeys written under Cushnahan
Not sure if there is another place name under Workhouse Antrim, the same word seems to be further up the page on Elizabeth White's entry.

That's marvellous, Sinann neer noticed Crosskeys or Antrim Workhouse- I also note on the far right hand side that he was illegitimate! So not likely to be an actual marriage. I'm going to trawl through these records to see if they had anymore children.

Thanks, so much!
