William Charlesworth married Sarah Ann Wales, Sheffield -- help!
« on: Tuesday 02 January 18 22:56 GMT (UK) »
Still trying to finish my partner's genealogy. William Charlesworth's children have their mother's maiden name listed as Wales in GRO, but I can't find a marriage record for them. They're living together in the 1871, 1881, 1891, and 1901 censuses. There's also a Charles Wales, boarder, living with them at one point. Is this a brother or cousin of Sarah? I can't seem to find William in the 1861 census, either.

If Sarah had been previously married - she would re-marry under her married name.  However - any children born to the second marriage would always show her actual maiden name

Why do you say they married in Sheffield if you can't find a marriage?

In 1871 they were in the Barnsley RD and I note that Sarah was born Leicestershire 1830

Where and when was Sarah born

Where and when was Charles born

Both Sarah and Charles were born in Sheffield, according to the 1881 census. The entry just has him as 'boarder' but I can't help but wonder if he was a relation. She was born about 1842 and Charles was born about 1854.

EDIT

Good job you used FS for the 1871 entry - Ancestry haven't got it

The 1851 has Sarah as the daughter of William & Mary.  The 1861 has Charles as the son of William & Mary so Sarah & Charles were siblings

Sarah Ann's birth reg is on freebmd in 1842 so you can check if her mmn matches Charles birth reg
