I'm sure we have all done it; and learned a valuable lesson.

As regards fathers on marriages
 - if it says "deceased" then you know he has died.
 - if it doesn't say "deceased", then there is no way of knowing if he is alive or not :-\

Not always KG, sometimes they name a father and say he is deceased when they are actually illegitimate and just making him up.  ;D

If Jane Mills their mother did indeed die in 1887, the children Florence, George and Jessie, now aged 16, 14 and 12, might well not be living with their father George, but might have been split up amongst relatives or working as servants.
