George Mackenzie.
« on: Wednesday 03 January 18 19:44 GMT (UK) »
Does anyone recognise this family.
George Mackenzie was born in Dornoch about 1776 son of William Mackenzie and Marian Mackay.
He married Marian Murray daughter of John Murray and Janet Mackay.
George died in Rogart 22/3/1876.
Marian died in Rogart 6/10/1860 and is buried in Dornoch. Presume George also buried there.
In their house, after they died, was remains of an army pay book. It was in the name of a William Mackenzie born 14/7/1777 in Dornoch who enlisted in Dornoch in 2nd Batt 93 Regt.
I am assuming that George and William were brothers but would love to know where their family home was.

There is one entry for another child to William MacKenzie and Marian MacKay in the Old Parish Registers. Jean McKenzie on 06/12/1793. This entry might include a place name in Dornoch that could give clues as to where the family lived.

From Jean Mackenzie's birth certificate I find that they were living at Achdacluag (spelling could be wrong) which was in Strath Carnaig.  I am now searching for the marriage of her parents William Mackenzie and Marian Mackay if anyone can help.

I am not sure if Achdacluag is actually in Strath Carnaig, Dornoch.
Has anyone come across this name before?

Looked at the baptism and it is one of these http://maps.nls.uk/view/74400145 west of Loch Fleet.  As to which one will be pretty much impossible to tell.  The problem being that during this era everyone wrote what was heard.

Thank you.
Can you please tell me if that was the spelling on his baptism?
